Sex Addiction: Partners or Spouses

What is it like to be in a committed relationship with a partner or spouse who is struggling with sexual acting out behaviors? How do you know if they have an addiction and what can you do for them and yourself? "52 Weeks of Peace" yoga club and healing center is offering a series of lectures covering all aspects of this topic. As more and more celebraties appear in the news regarding extremes of sexual conduct, awareness begins to increase regarding this sensitive and often "embarrassing" issue. Being married or in a relationship with someone who has this problem is physically, emotionally and spiritually damaging. There are few resources for trained and experienced help. Free lectures are offered every Monday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 pm at "52 Weeks of Peace" located at 408 "G" Bryant Circle (behind Ojai Valley News). This coming Monday, February1st, the topic will be "What is it Like to Love Someone Who is Acting out Sexually and What are the Efffects"? Shareen Prashanthi Torres, CSAT III (certified sex addiction and trauma therapist) will be providing information, answering questions. Everyone is welcome. A Philosophy of Healing

Vibrant Health is an ongoing journey, requiring deep awareness of one’s mental, emotional, physical and spiritual walk through life. The body has the innate capacity to create, regenerate and heal itself. It proved it over millions and millions of years as it developed from the simplest, one-cell-organism form of life to the complexity of the human body of today. And it goes through this process again and again as it develops from 2 cells the size of this dot ”.” into a community of 50-75 trillion cells that we call the human body, over a period of 9 months, during the pregnancy.

Biological systems are in continuous movement and designed to self-regulate, self-correct and live interdependently with all other forms of life, pending they are provided with the optimal tools to do so. Recent industrial progress has considerably altered our basic needs for healthy living: air, water, food, ways of life, community. Degenerative dis-eases including autoimmune disorders and cancers are rampant and more and more “new illnesses” are surfacing almost daily.

Don't Make Any Resolutions Till You Read This!

Thinking of making New Year’s Resolutions? Think again.

The most popular thing to do at New Years (besides drinking champagne) is probably to Make Resolutions. You tell yourself, your friends and your family (and if you’ve overdone it on champagne, perfect strangers!) that next year you’ll do it DIFFERENTLY. Next year, you really are going to lose those extra 20 pounds, even if you have to starve yourself to do it. For a time you stick to your plan. You diet, you join the gym and you lose some weight. Somewhere between Valentine’s Day and June, you lose your momentum. Summer rolls around and you beat up on yourself for not sticking to the diet and you dread putting on a swimsuit. Somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas you realize you really did eat that whole plate of cookies and you swear to fast until New Years so you don’t end the year without losing a single pound! Now it’s New Years Eve and you hate the sense of failure to meet your “resolution”, so you try to muster up some confidence to try again next year. (Maybe this contributes to the amount of champagne consumed on New Year’s Eve!)

Instead of making resolutions, what if you Set Intentions for 2009?

Mindful Holidays, Part 1

Did you ever try to remember details about past holidays and find that they all blur together? When I noticed this, I realized it was partly because my family celebrated exactly the same way every year. More importantly, I recognized my tendency to become less mindful as I got caught up in the busyness and activities of the season. I seemed to go into ‘auto-pilot’ mode where I let myself be swept away by the tide of traditions and family expectations.

That’s when I decided to be more mindful and create something uniquely memorable about each holiday.

TAT: Releasing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

TAT: Tapas Acupressure Technique — Releasing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

We live in a world that is largely shaped by PTSD. Most of us are carriers. Something that occurs to us as traumatic happens and we make a decision to respond is a specific way that in the moment is a good intelligent response. The “disorder” comes from our continually responding in the same way to similar incidents.

How To Be With Your Massage Therapist

The relationship between massage therapist and recipient is a special one. Giving a good massage requires careful listening and constant attention to a client's reactions, however subtle they may be. Receiving a good massage is just as active - it requires exposing your body to and communicating honestly with someone who may be a virtual stranger. I feel honored every time a new client trusts me with her care, especially if that someone is new to massage. Here are a few thoughts about how to act or Be in order to receive the best possible massage.

The Weakest Link

I was thinking about being well. What are the signs of wellness?
I was thinking about where did I feel “off”? What was out of harmony with being totally well?
I remembered the saying that a chain is as weak as it’s weakest link.
What were my weakest links?

Where have I been?

My last post was in October, 2007.

Life has had many lessons to share since that post...

Lost a lot of money in the real estate downturn...
Discovered that my Prostate Cancer is acting up again...
Closed The Raw Retreat due to lack of business and moved into a much smaller house...
Changed the focus of the Living Food business to individual coaching, hence the name change from The Raw Retreat to Raw Vegan Tutor...
Started working will clay again... (my life long passion!)
Rediscovered my love for my wife and my life...
Have dramatically reduced the amount of random data I allow as input...
Resolved a group of PSTD issues that have “plagued” me since I was very young...

That’s a good short snapshot.
Details may occur at random.
Stay tuned!

International Peace Day: September 21st

International Peace Day is celebrated every year on September 21st. It in designated as a worldwide movement to create a Global Ceasefire and day of peace and nonviolence.

In Ojai, we have supported this vision by creating a 3-day celebration: Living Peace in Ojai.

On Friday, the 21st, the Ojai Peace Coalition gave it’s local Noble Peace Prize. It went to Clive and Marion Lehman, who started a weekly Peace Vigil after the 2004 elections.

As they were telling their story, the story of the vigil, and sharing stories of Peacemaking, I thought about a war that we humans prefer to ignore; organized global terror about which it’s more comfortable to remain in denial...

Cry of the Ancestors

I have been given the gift of reading bodies. This has come out of a career in which I have massaged over 25,000 people. How I came to this work, and the subject of my new book, Cry of the Ancestors, is what this blog is dedicated to. I hope you will find it useful information in your own healing. I hope you will comment on its content so that I will be inspired to write more. This is my first time writing a blog. Is there anyone really out there? I have a published book called Bodies Unbound, Transforming Lives Through Touch, and perform a one woman show based on my book. I have written to heal myself and to tell others the story of that. I am still in the healing field, giving massages, doing Ancestor Work, and co-running a Raw Food Retreat at our home with my husband.

After massaging over 25,000 people in 32 years I have learned a lot about bodies.

How your thoughts and feelings effect your decisions, by Brook Montagna, Mindful Life Coach

When was the last time you felt worried (or freaked out) about money? Was it when you lost a business deal? Was it an unexpected car repair or health expense? Or maybe you’ve been freaking out even though money is rolling in, but you are afraid you won’t be able to sustain it – waiting for the “other shoe to drop”?
